So I’m telling a friend from college my newest good news about being hired permanently at Sephora, and the first thing he asked was if it was corporate or retail. When I told him it was retail, he’s was very condescending and quick to remind me that “you have a degree from UCLA.”
Yes.. and my degree has led me toward a job directly related to my major that I don’t like. Yes I get the job done, but blah. I want to love what I do, and honestly, I don’t care about how little I get paid at Sephora. It’s something I enjoy doing and something that makes me happy. I like meeting new people everyday and I love love love playing with all the makeup! I don’t have any responsibilities there and I’m not pressured at Sephora to elbow the next person out of my way in order to get ahead of anybody. I can be me! I don’t have to be bitchy me!
This also goes for people who ask why I care about my performance there. It’s like I shouldn’t be doing my best just because I’ll supposedly have nothing to show for it? Does everything I do or every job I do have to be solely for my resume? I’m so tired of thinking that way. Can’t a girl be content with a 20% discount of makeup and that’s it?
Some people drink or smoke out to have fun. I work at Sehora to have fun. Got it? Get it? Now back off.
