The Beauty Within

So I’m finally watching episodes from this season’s House, and parts of it disgusts me so much. No, I’m not a doctor, so the inaccurate medical facts spewed on the show doesn’t concern me. I am however, a lab tech, so it disgusts me when House’s people are in the lab and doing things like:

1. Not wearing gloves when they are touching samples.

2. Using the microscope when there is no samples to look at. I mean, didn’t they send everything to the lab themselves, and aren’t half of the tests more chemical tests anyways? So… really? a microscope? without a glove on??

3. The fact that they have a Light Cycler machine in the lab. Really? You doctors amplifying DNA yourselves? Yes, that’s what doctors went to medical school for, to perform light cyclers.

4. COFFEE IN THE LAB!!! You have blood, potentially infectious material, right there on the table, and you are drinking coffee?

Puh-lease.

Either I’m just a uber mega lab bitch now (which is soo sad), or somebody over at productions need to do their research.

Update:  I subscribe to this blog that links all sorts of medical related articles, and one link sent me over to a blog written by a doctor who reviews House!  It’s worth checking out.  Medical Reviews of House.  This doc points out how the “Young Guns” shouldn’t be doing the lab work in the first place since they aren’t trained in it.  Leave that to the CLS, or the peons of the lab work, the techs!
