The Beauty Within

I think my company lures people to stay longer they would like by having company planned parties 3 times a year.  Well, there’s 2 technical parties, the Christmas* party and the Hollywood Park party in June, and a weeklong Lab Week celebration.

*This year’s Christmas party was held in February, so it wasn’t technically a Christmas party.

But anyhow.. they space it out so people are less likely to quit to avoid missing the parties.  For example, if you came in July, and you just missed the Hollywood Park party, then you would want to stay til the Christmas party comes since everyone talks about how great the Christmas party is!  I had a co-worker who started in September with me, and she seriously quit the day after the Christmas* party this year!   She was not happy with the structure of the company, yet she stayed until she partied on the company’s dime.

Now that’s it’s Lab Week (4/20-4/26), I have another coworker who is leaving us in the beginning of May!  Is that a coincidence?  I think not.  I think she wanted to enjoy partying a bit for a week at work before leaving.  She could have left this week (she gave almost a month’s notice), but no, she is staying until AFTER Lab Week is over.

So what about me?  I’m not entirely miserable at my work anymore, but I definitely don’t want to stay there for too long.  So when am I planning to leave?

Probably after the next Christmas party.  =D

But in the mean time, I’m going to enjoy these company planned parties.
