You Know Work is Stressing You Out When…

You have NIGHTMARES about making mistakes at work.

So at my work, in order to be signed off from training, and become a qualified technologist, we have to take a really long test to show that we understand the ins and outs of everything.  It’s not ONLY things written in our protocols, but things we just learn from crazy things happening at work.

My first nightmare was a while ago.  In real life, our big test is this long long written test, and we are given the option of looking through our protocols to help us answer the question.  So in my nightmare, suddenly the test was turned into an oral exam, and we had to memorize all of our protocols!  This led to people hiding them, and me knocking frantically at some door asking to please please have the protocol so I can study, and also hiding it from other people.  Then we all had to wait in this music room (like the kind that high school bands stays in) for our turn to be questioned.

Now I have received my test, and the nightmare gets worse.  It actually turns into something that could happen in real life.

So we use this really old computer system for some of our machines (the whole don’t fix what ain’t broken sorta deal), and the system could get a bit tricky and anal.  One of the first things I learned was that for each and every command, we had to type in “GO TO” before the command number.  That leads us to whatever step in the process we want it to go.  I was told that if we didn’t type in “GO TO”, the computer gets seriously wacko.  What was seriously wacko?  I didn’t learn til recently when it was a question on the test.  Seriously wacko means if you just type in the command number, the corresponding step will be deleted from the program.

So there you go.  My dream.  I typed in some command without the “GO TO”, and voila, I deleted a crucial step from the program, and I was going to NGI hell.

Furrreeaky!!!

What’s funny about this whole thing is that when I told my supervisor, she said others have had that same dream before.  LoL!
