Baby Mania

Lately all of my oldest sister’s friends had babies or are having babies, so we’re just in this whole baby tornado.  Her best friend is due in about 6 weeks, so today her parents-in-law hosted a baby shower and invited us!

To be honest, I was a bit worried about the baby shower.  We’ve all read about lame baby showers where you have to play silly games like figuring out what sort of melted chocolate is in a diaper just by sniffing it (yuck), or everyone around asking women without kids when they’ll be having one of their own.  Luckily, it was NOTHING like that.

It was a fun gathering of all her friends and family, with plenty of delicious food that her dad-in-law cooked, movie/tv watching, karaoke singing, and of course present opening.  Her in-laws used to own a Chinese restaurant, so they make the YUMMIEST food in the world.  We all thought the food was catered, but were told otherwise.  There was this thai noodle that wasn’t exactly pad thai, but it was soooo delicious and I ended up taking a bunch home.  All of my sisters went, so we just hung around with another mutual friend who brought her 2 babies with her.

Babies can be soo adorable when they are not bratty.  She has 2 babies, a 3 year old boy and a 4 month old girl.  The 3 year old boy is the cutest and most non-annoying kid I have yet to meet.  Of course he played around a bit, but there was no crying, no tantrums, and generally all the annoying stuff associated with a 3 year old boy.  He also loved the Madeleine cookies my sister baked, and would steal them off your plate by distracting you with his gorgeous smile.  Before he left, he started waving at everyone, and not only did he blow kisses to all of us aunties there, he also came to each and everyone of us to give us a kiss on the cheek.  How adorable is that?

The 4 month old was a bit fussy because she was tired and hungry.  The problem?  Her mommy and daddy were in so much of a hurry that they both forgot the diaper bag!  She cried for just a little bit, but my 3rd sister, who just has a really warm and soft body, managed to calm her within 30 seconds just by holding her.  I think the hosts of the baby shower were excited to see such a young baby, giving them a glimpse of how their life would be like soon.

So aside from seeing the beautiful mommy-to-be (who doesn’t even look pregnant from the back), the great food, the cutest kids, the best part of the party was the presents!  Baby clothes are the cutest little things in the world, and baby stuffed animals are the softest in the world.  My friend got a lot of other goodies like diaper genies, bassinets, a penguin bowling set (you set these 12 penguins up on the floor and try to knock them down with this squishy round ball), and what I considered the best gift of all.

Her mother in law gave her this beautiful hand-knitted baby clothes set that was worn by both of her sons when they were brought home from the hospital.  A little cape, beanie, socks, mittens, and I can’t remember what else.  I started tearing up because I thought it was the best present to receive in the world.  Imagine dressing your own baby up in the same hand made outfit that your husband wore when he was a baby.  Yea.. I get really sappy, don’t I?

Anyhow.. My sister has plenty of pix and I’ll post some up.  There should be some hilarious ones, because well.. I was the one in front of the camera.  Hehehehehhehehehehehe..
