The Beauty Within

I have some blogs that I check pretty much every single day.  They are usually in 2 categories: Asian-American or Beauty.  The beauty ones written by Asian Americans (beautysnob and bagsnob) are even better!

I think I’ll start writing about one blog at a time; about why I enjoy them so much, and why I think you should read them too.

My absolute favorite blog has to be The Beauty Brains (www.thebeautybrains.com).  It’s written by 2 experienced and smart cosmetic chemists, the Left and Right Brain, and by Sarah Bellum, an experienced product evaluator.  With the 3 writers combined, they offer so much information on all different types of products.

One of their favorite things is to break down the claims made by various cosmetic companies.  They understand formulation, skin cell biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and basically all the different disciplines of science relating to cosmetics and beauty care.  An example of how they dispute a claim is through Jan Marnis eyelash growing magical serum.  The brains let you know first how eyelashes grow, factors that cause eyelashes to fall or thin, and what sort of results have been done by independent researchers to prove that a certain ingredient or combination of ingredients would cause eyelashes to grow.  They don’t just tell you it doesn’t work, but they’ll explain to you WHY it won’t work!

On top of that, the brains are truly great people.  They always take the time to e-mail back any sort of questions, even if they are so far left field!!  They also don’t mind giving out career advices.  For a while now, I’ve wanted to go into the cosmetics field since it’s something I’m very passionate about.  I e-mailed them asking for advice, and within a day, I get a response!  Not some bullshit response either, but a thorough one filled with advices.

How can you not love the brains?

Anyhow, go to their site, and read all the posts.  You’ll feel 10 times smarter when you are done.  Or you’ll feel 10 times dumber for spending all the money on things that don’t quite work the way they claim to.
